Sustainable Development Goals

IGC Group believes it can and should play a role in changing our world for the better.

Within our organization we identify and implement solutions for poverty, education, climate action and many other Sustainable Development Goals, formulated by the United Nations.

Fortunately, for many problems, we can also partner with and support hardworking and passionate people from NGO’s who are tackling these challenges head-on.

Goal 2 “Zero Hunger”: The polishing factory in Laos offers its employees a complimentary breakfast and lunch on a daily basis.

Goal 3 “Health and well-being”: Already on April 19, 2021 we started the COVID19 vaccine program at the Laos factory. The Laos factory also has a fully equipped day-care centre that offers free-of-charge services to employees with newborn children.

Goal 4 “Quality Education”: The Laos factory has a training centre where all new employees are taught to read, write and perform basic mathematics. The centre also informs new employees on healthcare, family planning and the general life in the city as the latter can be a hurdle for upcountry recruits.

Goal 5 “Gender Equality”: We provide equal pay and equal opportunities for males and females throughout the organization.

Goal 9 “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure”: Our head office in Antwerp is constructed in a sustainable way, keeping in mind efficient use of resources.

Goal 12 “Responsible Consumption and Production”: Our partners can rest assured they’re being offered natural diamonds only as our Natural Diamond Protocol guarantees the non-contamination of our supply chain by synthetic diamonds. Furthermore we take initiatives to boost energy efficiency in our factories.

Goal 13 “Climate Action”: We have identified CO2 reduction opportunities throughout the organization and implemented a carbon reduction strategy reducing the electricity consumption at our Thai factory by 19% by installing new insulation, replacing existing machinery and introducing LED lights.

Goal 15 “Life on Land”: We are funding initiatives to restore our planet's forestry and stop the loss of biodiversity. We are planting trees and are partnering with the NGO 'My Forest Armenia'.

Goal 16 “Peace”: As a Sightholder we source rough diamonds from reputable mining companies such as De Beers. Our sourcing fully complies with the Kimberly Process & UN Guiding Principles combating conflict & human right abuses across the value chain.

Reduce Electricity Consumption

As global warming is a serious threat to our society, we all need to do what we can to improve the situation as fast as possible.

Besides calculating its carbon footprint IGC Group is making efforts to become more energy efficient in its everyday practices.

Not only was the new Antwerp head office constructed as one of the most energy efficient diamond buildings, today 100% of its used electricity is generated from green energy sources. What is perhaps most impressive is that the Antwerp office made efforts across the board and has reduced its electricity consumption by more than 50% compared to 2017, saving 79.423 kWh in energy.

To further minimize our environmental impact in the coming years, IGC Group will keep on implementing sustainable practices such as retrofitting LED lighting and energy efficient appliances throughout its worldwide organization.

Diamonds Doing Good for people of Botswana

IGC Group is proud being part of an industry that has empowered ALL Botswana citizens. The below supply-chain documentary by Eco Age, a Sustainability Consultancy Company, demonstrates what can happen when diamond companies such as IGC Group invest in local partnerships with civil society. Operating the diamond polishing factory Zebra Diamonds Ltd. since 2009 has been hard work, but unlocking value for domestic people is a true Blueprint of Excellence.
